Braces for Teens
When it comes to braces for teens, we offer a range of orthodontic options that transform smiles and allow teens to express their individual styles. To give you an idea of the options available for your teen and what is involved in the process, we answer some of the most commonly asked questions:
Does my teen need braces?
For many teens, braces are an effective way to treat a wide range of dental issues including:
- Deep, open, cross, or under bite
- Over-retained teeth
- Crowded, protruded or spaced teeth
- Delayed tooth eruption
- Difficulty biting, chewing or speaking
- Jaw misalignment
During your child’s appointment, we will examine your teen’s teeth, as well as take x-rays and photos to assess the severity of problems and determine the best course of treatment. There are a number of different treatment options available for your teen, including braces or invisalign, which we will discuss with you and your teen during your visit.
What types of braces are available for my teen?
TLC for Smiles offers several options, including traditional braces, colorful braces, and Invisalign for Teens.
Traditional braces use standard metal brackets and wires to align teeth and correct other dental issues. Braces today are smaller, more comfortable and more discreet than braces of the past.Plus, instead of using wire to tie-in the wires, we use rubber bands that come in a variety of colors that can be changed at each appointment to match a favorite outfit, sports team, or to show off your teen’s individual style.
Invisalign for Teens
Invisalign for Teens are transparent aligners that correct many of the same dental problems as traditional braces. Unlike traditional braces, however, Invisalign aligners are made of a durable, comfortable plastic material and are removable. Removing the aligners allows teens to enjoy all their favorite foods without restriction and also makes aligners easy to clean and care for. Thanks to the transparent material of Invisalign for Teens, aligners are virtually invisible. Ceramic braces are made of a translucent material that is perfect for those looking for the precision of traditional braces without the look of metal or color in their mouth.
Other dental appliances may be used as part of one’s comprehensive orthodontic treatment in conjunction with or independent of braces. These other appliances include expanders, functional appliances, or habit appliances, each with its own benefit and use.
